Summer Training at the Kodokan, Japan

Picture
June 17, 2024 - Hello everyone. I am going to Tokyo, Japan, to train for two months in the summer at the Kodokan Judo Institute. For those of you who do not know the Kodokan, it is the most prestigious Judo institute in the world and the birthplace of Judo. The Vatican or Mecca of the Judo World, so to speak.

The purpose is to further my Judo training and education and continue to grow as a judoka, a lifetime pursuit for us all. Constant training is important to every judoka’s growth. My growth will help you - my students, and Judo at large. My objective was always to show as many people as possible the beauty of Judo with all its physical, mental and spiritual sides - tough and gentle.

Training will continue as normal with the black belt members sharing the burden of running classes for the 8 weeks I'll be away (June 29 - August 26). There will not be any kids’ classes while I am away, but the older and more experienced ones, 12+ years, can attend the low intensity Judo Lite sessions on Saturdays 12-1PM. Also, there will not be any Wednesday Judo Lite sessions in July/August. We will resume kids’ classes and Wednesday sessions in September when I return. To confirm, for July/August we are only having the following sessions on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays: -

  1. Tuesdays/Thursdays TEENS/ADULTS – 6:00-7:30PM
  2. Saturdays JUDO LITE – 12:00-1:00PM
  3. Saturdays RANDORI – 1:00-2:00PM

This will be an expensive project for me, so I ask for all who are taking classes to please pay your fees promptly online or by making deposits at our bank. This will at least keep us up to date with our dojo rent. Please contact me for details if you are not familiar with this method of fees payment.

Finally, thank you all for your encouragement and support, without which I would not be able to do this. I will stay connected from time to time via WhatsApp.
