George and Laing Shine at QPJC Tourney
October 20, 2025 - The Cascade Community Centre was the site of the QPJC Tournament 2025 which featured the rich talent of T&T’s martial arts community found in judo and submission grappling on Saturday October 18th.
The Queen’s Park Judo Club hosted the event which attracted over 30 judoka and grapplers from around the country. The small, yet intimate facility was cramped for space as family and friends were treated to exciting matches between clubs and schools on Saturday morning.
T&T’s first judo Olympian, Christopher George (41) was the only participant on the day to compete in submission grappling and judo matches. He showed his versatility as an athlete and experience as a competitor by winning his respective categories in both disciplines. Adam Laing (13) was clinical in his execution and decisively won the Boys 12-14yrs judo category, hoping to follow in the footsteps of his QPJC teammate George, as a judo Olympian. Finally, Charles Greenidge (20) of EB Athletics put on a display of skill and spirited determination to win the lightweight submission grappling category.
The QPJC wishes to thank the management and staff of the Cascade Community Centre, participants, spectators and volunteers who helped to make this event a success.
